July Camp

It'd be great if I could be at real camp, but I'm trying out July Camp NaNoWriMo. After my spectacular failure at April's session, this time I've actually "planned" a novel, and even if I don't hit my word goal, hope to write at least once a day.

I won't be writing Andrian Adventures... People (you know, the three people who've read AA) always ask if I'm still writing it. I'm all:

I can water my wii with orange juice if I want to!

Um so yeah. Anyway.

I struggled for a while trying to decide if I wanted to write a fantasy or sci-fi, and determined that really all I wanted to do was write a horrible post-apocolyptic dystopia, so that's what I'm doing. I struggled for a while about how many main characters I wanted; settled on three, and then decided that since I am not the best at writing third-person POV fantasy, I was going to make it 1st person POV for all three characters.... this is going to be one helluva magical trainwreck :) As I was planning all of this last night, I determined that the story would end at a lake. (?!?!? Like, what?!) No worries. I've totally got this.
Also, my Number 1 Rule is no werewolves... so I am absolutely not allowed to put in any werewolves. Not one. Not even a mention of one.

I'm ready to go! I set the goal for 25,000 words (it's summer, I can slack if I want to). Time to get writing! :)

Superman

This episode has been brought to you by a bottle of Riesling So, movie #8 was Sydney White No need to worry, I brought it Genres: Some Geekery, Amanda Bynes, Fairytale Highlights: Amanda Bynes not crazy all the sneaky geekery references awkwardly based off Snow White Lowlights: They could've made her SUCH a geek her hair. the whole movie. There is something off about it. I mean, this movie is ok. Also, why is Amanda Bynes a genre? Mysterious. I sort of zoned out while watching this and read webcomics instead. Still, it's cute. anyway, onto tonight's main attraction (attractive man whaaaaat) SUPERMAN   Genres: Superhero, Action, Fangirl ...does the Fangirl genre count if I'm the only fangirl? yes. So, this is the story of Kal-El, who was sent to earth as a wee babe because his native home of Krypton was about to BLOW THE HECK UP. He is adopted by a possible Minnesotan (Jonathan Kent, I'm l...

Villains

This morning I was thinking about antagonists in my stories, and realized that I'm actually horrible at creating really solid evil characters. I have plenty who are snotty, or rude, or sort of grumpy, but not any villainous  villains. I think I'll work on creating someone spectacularly wicked for the second part of Andrian Adventures. I'd like to stay away  from the usual fantasy/fairy-tale stereotypes, and since I've already made a wicked wizard for the first part of AA, I guess that's out. Maybe it'll be a recurring antagonist-- should they go from being good to bad? Time to get to work :) In other news, here's a picture of some alien beer. We actually didn't find this in Roswell, but in Las Cruces... in hindsight, I wish I'd tried some. I was flipping through pictures on my phone and was filled with regret :)

NaNoWriMo

It's (almost) November, and you know what that means! It's National Novel Writing Month! This year, I'm all kinds of prepared (although really, how can you ever be prepared to sit down and write a novel in a month?) and this time, I'm going to finish it! What is NaNoWriMo, you ask? This! http://www.nanowrimo.org/ ...have you ever found yourself lying around, wishing you could write a novel? Have you ever contemplated becoming a hermit for a month? Have you ever said to yourself, "why is there nothing interesting in November?" or "How can I escape all of these Christmas commercials?" Look no further. NaNoWriMo is here for you. For those who don't know, the goal is to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days, starting November 1st, and ending the 30th. You can track your progress online, commiserate with fellow writers in your area, and become a recluse for 30 days. It's also a great excuse to drink a lot of coffee (or other caffeinated beve...
